The
Information Society and the New Drivers?
Dr.
Jon Thorhallsson, President CECUA
Summary
Up
till now the Information Society for all process has been driven by IT&T
industries. Now new drivers are taking over, i.e. businesses focusing on reducing
costs to be competitive in global business environment, e.g. Banking, Tourism,
Hotels, Airlines, etc. Those companies are very experienced in marketing and
sales and have billions of €s to spend on it. Will they respect cultural
and linguistic diversities? Will small countries sit at the same table as
larger ones? Is their culture and language in danger of extinction?

and Research Approach to Internet Governance:
Research Programme VOX-INTERNET
Alain Moscowitz, General Secretary, Inforep, France
Abstract:
The
Research program Vox-Internet is a multidisciplinary one involving natural
sciences, social sciences, law, humanities, etc. Vox-Internet is a distributed
research approach in line with the Lisbon agenda.
It was set up to support and structure French, European and International
research on Internet related domains in order to facilitate the transition
from an Information Society to a Knowledge-based Society.
In addition, to support the current debate held within the WSIS process, it
will help to build adequate scientific tools in order to maintain and deploy
the open nature of Internet as a unique instrument of knowledge and exchange.
